Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

2013 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Aromas for this wine include ripe black currants, blackberries, fresh green herbs, pencil lead, and cigar box. Fruit flavors in the mouth include plum jam and fresh blackberry syrup, with vanilla and caramel notes on the finish. Another full-bodied Cabernet, this wine is well balanced with medium acidity and velvety tannins.

OLDER VINTAGES

2012 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

This was a fantastic vintage in the Walla Walla Valley, as it was in many of the winegrowing regions around the world. Perfect berry size, textbook weather and a wonderful warm, long harvest.

The nose of this wine yields beautiful fruit aromas including currants, cherries and blackberries. Another swirl may reveal hints of an old baseball glove or a faint note of violet. A wonderful, mouth-filling body coats the tongue and reaches almost every point in your mouth. Our favorite thing about this wine is the wonderful balance and long, lingering finish.

2011 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

As a result of a cool year, this Cabernet Sauvignon is unique compared to prior vintages of Dumas Station Cabernets. Softer, more delicate fruit aromas of dark cherries, currants, and plums solicit the palate. Walla Walla Valley terroir components include a dusting of minerality, a faint nose of cocktail olives and bay leaf. Bright tannins create a solid backbone, which will continue to mellow with time. The wine ends with a long finish—typical of our Cabernets—plus enough acidity to make this a great food pairing wine.

2010 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2010 vintage started with a cool spring and summer that yielded small berries and concentrated flavors. The growing season ended with an ideal autumn, enabling ripe berries with a wonderful balance between sugar levels and acidity.

The nose of this wine offers scents of freshly picked cherries, currants, pencil lead and dusty baking spices. Intense flavors and complexity create intrigue and beg a vigorous swirl to release them. This Cabernet is bold and firm in texture, with strong varietal characteristics and a finish that lingers on the palate.

OLDER VINTAGES

2009 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

We did not produce a vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon in 2009. The Walla Walla Valley was hit with an early freeze in October 2009 and the grapes did not attain our preferred level of ripeness--mainly phenolic ripening--to produce the level of quality that we desire. The grapes that weren't sold off made it into our 2009 Cow Catcher Red, making it one of the best "Cow Catchers" that we've every produced.

2008 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Fruit for this wine comes from the Minnick Hills Vineyard, just north of the Walla Walla airport. A healthy dose of volcanic ash dominates the bottom portion of the vineyard soil, which was deposited following the eruption of Mt. Mazama 7700 years ago and is now known as Crater Lake in Central Oregon. Lower summer temperatures in 2008 created good acid levels and very well-balanced wines.

Deep aromas fill the glass with notes of dark chocolate and hints of tobacco. Rich flavors of cherries, blackberries and currants swirl through the mouth in a full-bodied texture. For the finish, light hints of spice and smoke meld with velveteen.

2007 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

This wine singularly shows what an exceptional vintage 2007 was in the Walla Walla Valley. Subtle herbal notes on the nose include cinnamon and cardamom. Bright cherries and dark stone fruits exude a luscious mouth feel while the finish rolls on with distinguished tannins. In typical Walla Walla fashion, bold fruit flavors are exquisitely balanced with tannin and acid, with layers that meander through every taste bud.

2006 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Minnick Hills produced exceptional fruit in 2006. The wine displays similar fruitfulness to our first vintage in 2003—lots of blackberries and currants, with some dark cherries thrown in. The characteristic spiciness is also present. Now that the vineyard has some age on it, we are able to extract more impressive structural components.
