2013 Excursion Syrah

$48.00

The dark crimson color of this weighty wine stands out against any background.  Notes of strawberry jam and black currant entwine in a standoff of bright red vs. dark black fruits.  This wine is deliciously lavish and round, with mouth-filling weight on the palate and balanced acidity.

Description

The Excursion is a single vineyard co-fermentation project between Jay and his father.  Both the Syrah and Viognier grapes for this wine come from Breezy Slope Vineyard, owned by Jack DeWitt—Jay’s father.  The vineyard sits on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley, at the base of the Blue Mountains.  Jack and Jay planted the vineyard together in 2003, and Jay continues to manage the small vineyard for his father.

This wine starts with our single vineyard Syrah, and is co-fermented with a small lot (3%) of Viognier from the same vineyard.  The dark crimson color of this weighty wine stands out against any background.  Notes of strawberry jam and black currant entwine in a standoff of bright red vs. dark black fruits.  This wine is deliciously lavish and round, with mouth-filling weight on the palate and balanced acidity.  Our best Syrah.
