In the mid-nineties, Ryan began work at one of the largest stainless tank manufacturers in the wine and beer industry. He started as a welder, and worked his way up from there. Living close to the Willamette Valley, it was there that he fell in love with wine, with Pinot Noir being his first romance. Ryan and Ali met in Portland a few years later, and married.
Looking for a change, Ryan made the leap from the manufacturing industry to wine. He and Ali moved to Portland in 2016, and Ryan enrolled in the Enology & Viticulture program in Walla Walla, with the plan to join the family business and take over for his father-in-law (and winery co-founder) Doug Harvey. He credits his winemaking knowledge so far to our winemaker Jay DeWitt, and teachers Joel Perez and Tim Donahue. While still learning, Ryan manages our facilities and has put his welding skills to use building custom stainless steel tanks for us.
While he’s not landscaping or changing light bulbs at the winery, Ryan enjoys photography, kayaking, rafting, sailing, and scaling northwest mountain peaks.
