Jay DeWitt
Managing Partner / Vigneron

Jay grew up on a Walla Walla area wheat farm. He is the forth generation in the DeWitt family to farm. He earned a degree in Agronomy from WSU and spent several years consulting farmers in northern California where he fell in love with great Cabernet Sauvignons. He moved back to the Walla Walla valley in 1987 and farmed with his family until founding Dumas Station along with Doug Harvey in 2003. His is a strong believer that great wine is made in the vineyard and that constant attention to the grapes will be rewarded.

Dirk Brink
Winemaker

Dirk is a native of South Africa, and grew up outside of Cape Town surrounded by vineyards and wineries. He attributes his dad’s love of farming and his mother’s patience and attention to detail to his passion for viticulture and winemaking. After studying enology and viticulture in South Africa, Dirk earned an internship with Chateau Ste. Michelle that brought him to the United States in 2004 – he worked at J. Bookwalter and Kestrel Vintners. Dirk met his wife, Esther, when they both worked at Kestrel. After working his way to assistant winemaker, Dirk became the lead winemaker at Coeur d’Alene Cellars. In 2015 he was recruited to be the winemaker for Basel Cellars in Walla Walla. Dirk is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys watching rugby and cricket. He spends most of his free time working on his farm (just a mile down the road from our estate Birch Creek vineyard) with his wife and their two young daughters.

Pete Thorson
Marketing & Sales Manager

Pete was the original marketing and sales guy for Dumas Station in the early days – when we were still producing less than 1,000 cases. He left the winery in 2010 and went to work for a bank in their marketing department. After seven years away from us we were able to persuade Pete to rejoin Dumas Station to help with our marketing and sales efforts. Pete is a die-hard Washington State University Cougar fan and a graduate of the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication.
